New office will help create 170 new jobs over the course of 3 years and will establish itself as the headquarters office in the US, along with the other headquarter location in Hong Kong. This will be Block.one’s second office in Virginia. First office is currently located in Dan Larimer’s current residence, Blacksburg, VA, where also a Virginia Tech campus is located.
Commenting on the news Governor Northam made the following statement:
Blockchain and other technologies are rapidly evolving, and industry pioneers like Block.one help to bolster the Commonwealth’s reputation as a leader in the information technology sector. The company’s continued growth in Virginia is a tremendous testament to the flourishing high-tech talent pool that is prevalent in diverse regions of the Commonwealth, from the New River Valley to Northern Virginia.
When EOSwriter interviewed Brendan Blumer and Dan Larimer following the #B1June event and asked about the new office location, Brendan commented the following:
We are opening office in Arlington, VA. We are already very rooted nearby. We’ll start expanding. DC is an international city. A lot of security engineers, cryptographers are here. DC – Arlington beltway is rich environment for the type of things we do. Regulators, clients, engineers and tremendous international access. Direct flights for Hong Kong where our headquarters are. First step is a modest expansion into this area. Main office is in Hong Kong. No immediate plans to move it to the US. Depends on how business continues to develop, how regulations will develop etc.
In its press release Block.one stated that the state of Virginia has one of the highest rankings in the country for high tech workers concentration.
