Valentine’s Day 2020 will forever go in history as the day on which Voice Beta was launched! Brendan, Dan and the rest of the B1 team have been hard at work to make this day happen. And finally, some of the lucky users were able to access Voice Beta today.
For the community, the Voice journey started on June 1, 2019 at the now infamous #B1June event that Block.one hosted in Washington DC in front of several hundred EOS supporters.
At the event Brendan and Dan for the first time officially announced Voice, the social media app, where “everyone has a voice“. The community accepted this announcement very enthusiastically. But a lot of questions remained to be answered. And finally starting today, we’ll be getting answers to a lot of these questions!
Salah Zalatimo, newly-recruited CEO of Voice has officially kicked off the event by Tweeting the following:
Questions around the requirement for passing the KYC (Know Your Customer) test during the signup process were abundant. Salah answered them in this tweet:
HooYu were chosen as a partnering organization to conduct KYC testing. According to their profile, HooYu is the “leading provider of customer onboarding, KYC and fraud investigation tools”
Some ground rules have been set in stone for the users of Voice. Some of the rules feel like a breath of fresh air compared to other social media platforms where these concepts are violated on a daily basis:
- No hate, abuse, discrimination
- No harassment, threats, intimidation
- No pornography
- No invasion of privacy
- No deception
However, enforcement of these rules may lead to questions of moderation and centralization of authority, as the violation of these rules comes at a cost of penalties outlined below:
- Strike 1: Warning
- Strike 2: 24 Hour Mute
- Strike 3: 7 Day Mute
- Strike 4: 30 Day Mute
- Strike 5: 1 Year Mute
- Strike 6: Permanent termination of your Voice account
So now that the formalities have been set aside, let’s jump into the platform and explore its capabilities. Expect an additional post going through a preview of the newly launched Voice platform shortly!
