Due to the current coronavirus pandemic there’s been a surge in the demand for free video calling/conferencing applications now that people are working from home. Zoom, one of the popular video conferencing applications, has seen its user base grow from 10 million to 200 million since the pandemic began just three months ago.
Video calling, conferencing, and just calling in general, is much more affordable on the internet compared to mobile networks. In fact, all people need to communicate on the internet is an internet connection, which most people already have anyways, so there’s no additional costs.
This form of communicating via the internet is a huge market as the world has becoming more globalized, and it is definitely the preferred form of personal communication of the future. With Zoom now facing legal trouble – being sued for fraud for having overstated its security features and procedures – now is probably the time for blockchain alternative platforms to come to the party.
Enter kChat; a fully decentralized video conferencing platform built on EOS by top 21 EOS Block Producer EOS Rapid. They’ve just released the public beta of the platform for users to test out, both on the EOS mainnet and on Jungle Testnet. Users with EOS accounts can make video and voice calls to other users, using only their account name, assuming they’ve signed-up for kChat of course. The platform is still in its early development stages and we urge users to be careful with how they interact with the platform.
We’re seeing great activity this year, and it’s gratifying to see EOS Rapid finally coming out to play and being active on social media, it’s been a while. We will keep track of how this technology progresses and keep you updated, so stay tuned!
