Today the EOSIO community has been reminded of the EOS VC grants program, just in case we had forgotten. We first announced the launch of the EOS VC grants program back in mid December of last year. Block.one had announced its intentions to fund active community members as well as those building projects using the EOSIO protocol. The EOS VC program was said to contribute a total of $1.5 million in $50,000 grants. Well, today the first of those projects has been announced.
In a subtle announcement that was more focused on the broader portfolio of its investments that are dealing with the impact of COVID-19 using blockchain solutions, Block.one announced Genobank.io as the recipient of the $50,000 EOS VC grant. Genobank.io recently partnered with Telos to develop an open-source app that allows users to anonymously and securely access low-cost COVID-19 testing.
As an EOS VC Grants recipient, we are grateful to have the backing and support of Block.one’s venture arm EOS VC in aiding our efforts to anonymize DNA/RNA test kits (including coronavirus) while empowering patients and users to decide if they want their anonymized data to be available to the scientific community and help control the spread of the coronavirus and potentially contribute to a treatment.Daniel Uribe (CEO of Genobank.io)
Grants aside, it is gratifying to see this many blockchain projects playing their part in the fight against COVID-19. Block.one alone, and through its VC arms, has invested in at least four projects that are helping curb the spread of the virus.
One such project is PUML Better Health, which is a health and wellness platform that has launched a LIVE STREAM service to allow its members to catch live sessions of home workouts in order to keep healthy and fit while social distancing from the comfort of their homes.
Similarly, Moonlighting – an on-demand freelance marketplace – has recently announced free access to its searchable database of 200,000 work-from-home job listings and one million part-time opportunities. Making it that much easier for individuals to find supplementary work while under quarantine.
Then there’s Innoplexus, an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain solutions provider for the support of drug development from its inception stages to end market. They’ve recently announced opening up their proprietary Ontosight AI-based platform to make it freely and globally available to COVID-19 researchers, medical institutes, news portals, governments, and the public.
