Around this time last year, the EOS community was in anticipation for an EOS event of the year. The event, dubbed #B1June, was set up for EOS(IO) centered presentations, exclusive announcements, and new product demonstrations by Block.one. In attendance were over 300 industry influencers, developers, members of the media and the community.
The event, held on the 1st of June, made a number of announcements, including an EOSIO educational program by Coinbase where users earn EOS tokens by simply learning about its technology and ecosystem. Block.one also announced EOSIO 2, which has since come to fruition with new features such as EOS VM, and a WebAssembly engine that has greatly increased the processing speeds of smart contracts by up to 12x compared to EOSIO 1. A partnership with Yubico to provide EOSIO Yubikeys was revealed, as well as a revolutionary social media platform Voice.
This year however, it has become clear that #B1June won’t be a recurring event, at least not an event that takes place on the same date each year, if at all. Thankfully, the CEO of Block.one, Brendan Blumer has given us a hint about plans for the next event.
‘Doing events in line with product readiness… already begun plans on our next‘
I think that’s enough information to suggest that the next event will be held sometime this year, although we can never be 100% certain without confirmation from Block.one. If you remember not too long ago, the CTO of Block.one, Dan Larimer also made a hint about a release of new products from Block.one this year. In the exclusive interview, Dan was asked whether he and his team were working on any new products this year. This was his response:
I would absolutely love to give you a hint, but we have to keep some of our surprises behind the curtain for now. I can tell you that there will [be] new products from Block.one in new industries this year.Daniel Larimer (CTO at Block.one)
Taking Brendan’s comment on a new event and Dan’s statement of new products, I think it’s safe to say Block.one will have another event this year to showcase these new products. What these products will be is anybody’s guess and hopefully will learn more as the weeks and months go on.
Stay tuned for updates as Block.one prepares to start voting this month, while Voice is planning on launching a big update in the next couple months, and of course there’s now an event and new products to look forward to in the second quarter of 2020.
