Mainstream adoption doesn’t happen all at once, it takes a couple adoption blips here and there before the industry realizes that it has been achieved. When WAX announced their partnership with TOPPS, a global trading card company, it represented a big step towards mainstream adoption of blockchain. And having seen the first materialization of the partnership less than 24 hours ago, WAX and TOPPS are showcasing the capabilities of blockchain technology to the world.
Less than 24 hours ago WAX and TOPPS made the announcement, from their respective Twitter accounts, that a new series of the world-famous Garbage Pail Kids trading cards are now live on the WAX blockchain. Since then they’ve sold out of the mega packs and the last standard packs look to be sold out soon.
This great demand and quick sellout is driven by the unique features of blockchain, as well as the popularity of the Garbage Pail Kids (GPK) brand. For the first time ever, collectors and traders of the GPK cards can confirm with 100% certainty that there is indeed a limited amount of these cards and that no more can be created.
Collectors will also have instant access to information they didn’t have before regarding the ownership of their cards, such as history of ownership, specifications, and trade history. Now collectors can independently confirm how much a specific card previously sold for and who were the previous owners.
Cards might be the same but each has its own trading history which might influence its value to the own. For instance, if a certain card was previously owned by a celebrity that would significantly increase its value even if there is another one like it. Verifiable information about trade histories, ownership, and scarcity are what makes tradeable cards on a blockchain more valuable than physical ones.
WAX is able to provide secure environment for collectors to buy, sell, and trade virtual items to anyone. Leveraging #EOSIO’s industry leading technology WAX is able to provide instant and feeless transactions from one person to the other, anywhere in the world.
What do you think of this partnership between WAX and TOPPS? Will digital tradeable assets become more popular than their physical counterparts or will they find ways to coexist? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, or on our @Twitter and @Telegram accounts.
