Fast approaching is the day that Block.one starts participating in the governance of EOS. Today they’ve released a statement about how that is going to work and essentially outlining what their intentions are in terms of maintaining a highly functional EOS network.
Leading up to Block.one’s participation the community had been wondering how this will affect Block Producers (BPs) and what it would mean for different types of BPs. Today the community got the overall picture of what Block.one’s voting efforts will look like; they’ll vote for Block Producers who make valuable contributions to the ecosystem.
Besides the criteria for valuable contributions, Block.one has also set minimum requirements for BPs to qualify for votes. They are listed as follows:
- The general location of the node has been disclosed publicly through the BP JSON file.
- Independently operating an API or P2P node that is publicly queryable.
- The API or P2P node is running EOSIO v2.0 or greater.
Block.one further adds that their criteria will continue to evolve along with the network through community engagement. Which brings into question their Public Blockchain Engagement (PBE) division, and they had more to add on that as well as its role in modelling an independent EOS Foundation.
The PBE division is hard at work researching models for an independent EOS Foundation. If launched, it is intended that the independently operating Foundation will receive the delegated weight of Block.one’s available voting tokens. We are optimistic about the progress of our R&D efforts thus far, and continue to focus on innovating structures that align the interests of network participants to maximize network security, performance, vision, and opportunity.Block.one
There was no mention of the exact date of when they’ll start voting. We’re still looking at a time frame that’s toward the end of the month as previously stated by the PBE. However, we now believe it will likely be after the 22nd of May because that’s the deadline Block.one has set for BP’s to submit a summary of their contributions to the network.
