The Telos blockchain will now process payment transactions for gamers on Steam – the world’s largest distribution platform for PC gaming. Users of the Farm Game platform which runs on Telos are able to place stakes on their matches and compete against each other for the prize-pools. There’s no longer a need to trust a third party to hold the money in escrow because smart contracts handle the logistics of holding and distributing the prizepool to the eventual winner(s) after confirming the results.
Farm Game is a second layer service to a need that most gamers have in gaming platforms such as Steam, which is ‘how can they safely compete with each other for self-wagered bounties without needing to trust the other players?’ thus its no surprise that blockchain offers the solution once again. The games are still played off-chain with only the results being tracked and payouts made on the Telos blockchain.
This should have a great effect of exposing players to the benefits of blockchain. With Farm Game representing an entry level solution, it won’t be long before these players realize that there are games that have their own in-game ecosystems where they can earn money just for playing, without having placed any wagers. Telos already has platforms like QUDO where gaming activity and performance are rewarded with a cryptocurrency.
However, in these early days the Farm Game platform still seems to be targeted towards players who are already familiar with blockchain because new player would need to first create a Telos account and then fund it with Telos tokens from external exchanges. Regardless, as more players learn about the platform they’ll be incentivized to tell their friends about it to make for a more fun experience by competing as against other global teams with cryptocurrency on the line.
