If you’re a REX holder and keeping an eye on your returns you may have noticed this….

EOS Authority was quick to alert the community on Twitter.

The owner of the account haytqnbvhege just made possibly the biggest mistake of his/her life, a mistake worth 5,320 EOS or ($36,176 USD). It seems as though somehow the user managed to mistake borrowing for lending and spent 5,320 EOS on 9.9M EOS worth of CPU and 8.9M EOS worth of NET. I was actually alerted to the whole ordeal from Dan’s comment on the EOS REX telegram.

I can only imagine how it would feel to lose that much EOS, for all we know that could be their life savings right there.
What can we do to help?
Within a few minutes the EOS community was brain storming ideas on the EOSREX telegram chat, we decided the best course of action would be to simply return our REX profits from the mistake back to the users account. To be totally clear this is NOT reversing a transaction, and no one is obliged to return anything to the user who made the mistake. It’s simply our own personal choice to return the funds, it’s totally up to you.
Please keep in mind we can never know 100% if it was a mistake, but there are a few points which make it almost beyond doubt.
- There is no smart contract on the account
- No application would ever need 8.9M EOS worth of NET…. ever.
Disclaimer. We take no responsibly for what you do with your EOS, if you decide to send EOS to the users account, that is 100% your decision not ours.
How much should I return?
Simply multiple the EOS you have staked to REX by 0.00006259 and that’s the amount to return to the account – https://bloks.io/account/haytqnbvhege
5320/85M*1 = 0.00006259
I hope we can recover at least some of the poor souls funds, if you do decide to send some EOS back be sure to alert them with a message in the memo field, they may not have even realised they have made a mistake yet! Let’s come together as a community to save this poor soul.
